Chatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj Research and Training Institute, Bhagidari Bhawan, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow was established by Government Order No. 0/3148-26-3-97(4)/69, dated: 97 July 01. In order to provide an opportunity for proper development of youth and adequate representation in administrative services, a scheme of free coaching for the preparation of Civil Services Examination is being run by the institute.

There is a provision in the institute to select and give admission to 45 percent of Scheduled Caste, 05 percent of Scheduled Tribe and 50 percent of Other Backward Class candidates for pre-examination coaching. The institute has a total sanctioned capacity for admission of 300 candidates. The institute is spread over a huge campus with a total area of ​​approximately 5.5 acres. The institute has an administrative building, an auditorium, two hostels with 75-75 rooms each and a dining hall with mess. The residential capacity of the institute is 150 candidates against 300 rooms.

In view of the changing nature of Civil Services Examination, new guidelines have been issued for conducting coaching in the institute as per Government Order No. 1015/26-3-2020 dated 27 April 2020, according to which the arrangements have been made to conduct coaching sessions for preparation of Civil Services Examination (Preliminary and Main Examination) in the institute. The duration of coaching is 10 months.
